Before you do anything especially any sort of physical activity, then you always want to make sure that you stretch before you run. Think of it this way, if you do not stretch muscles then you are risking the chances of becoming injured. So how would you feel if you became injured the day before the important game? That is why it is always important to you stretch no matter what you do.
The next thing you want to do is focus on weight training exercises. Because when you focus on training exercises, you are acting against resistance with your muscles and this will result in you become stronger than before which is a key component to improving your performance.
You also might want to add that nutrition is important. Be sure that you take some protein supplements to give your body the minerals and nutrients that it needs. When you give your body the right nutrients then your body will recover faster and it will become stronger as well which is a plus. So please be sure that you eat right after you workout.
